Chapter:7 A Promise Made in Tears: The Secret Flight to Goa

The school’s rigid rules and principles completely clashed with my own, making it impossible for me to continue teaching there. Needing a reset, I packed up, returned to where my journey began, and moved into a quiet rented house. Little did I know, this place was about to awaken something entirely unexpected within me.

I initially planned to stay just a few days, to observe the rhythm of the place and catch my breath. But almost the moment I arrived, an overwhelming, magnetic pull took hold of my heart: I needed to meet her. It was a longing mirrored perfectly in her own soul. In what felt like no time at all, we had unspooled our deepest secrets, hiding absolutely nothing from one another.

We hadn’t just connected; we had merged into a single entity, striking a flawless Golden Ratio within our inner worlds—a bond born on day one that grew with terrifying speed. We anticipated each other’s thoughts and finished each other’s sentences. Our hearts beat in absolute unison. We were mirror images of each other, right down to the shared quirk of being left-handed. Within a few short months, a profound realization hit us both: living without each other was like trying to live without oxygen.

Yet, a brutal reality stood between us: over 4,000 miles of distance. One day, her voice thick with determination, she declared she wanted to meet, no matter the cost. She was ready to cross borders and leave her country just to see me. Her passion was intoxicating, and I promised her that, yes, when the time was right, we would close the distance.

But beneath my promise lay a crushing dread. To make it happen, I would need permission from my parents—a request I knew would be fiercely denied.

My household operates strictly on traditional Indian foundations. Every movement is monitored; every journey demands total transparency and an itinerary accounted for down to the last step. Telling my family the truth was out of the question, as by our ancient canons, only my parents held the right to choose my bride.

I had always been fiercely honest with my family, and the very thought of deceiving them paralyzed me. But when I confessed my hesitation to her over a video call, the sight of her broken heart shattered my own. Tears of grief streamed down her cheeks, and she couldn’t stop crying. Watching her weep through the screen gripped my chest so tightly that the words spilled out before I could stop them:

“My dear girl, don’t cry. I will slip away, and my escape will be our secret.”

Her courage had ignited my own. In an instant, every lingering doubt vanished, replaced by an unbreakable resolve.

From that moment on, we meticulously crafted our escape plan. We chose the sun-drenched shores of Goa, India—the perfect sanctuary away from watchful eyes. And as if written in the stars, the dates aligned beautifully: our very first meeting would take place on the eve of my birthday.

They say that when God blesses your path, you feel it in your bones. Everything clicked into place so effortlessly that I knew, beyond a shadow of a doubt, I was making exactly the right choice.
