Deep down, I wanted to ignore my father’s ultimatum. But if I was being completely honest with myself, a restless dissatisfaction was brewing inside me. I wanted more from life—a better income, a secure future, and a life I could be proud of.
I began to comfort myself with a new hope: Maybe a new city would offer a fresh perspective. Maybe, just maybe, I would finally find my true purpose. With these echoing dreams, I made the heavy choice to say goodbye to my friend’s school.
My fellow teachers, with whom I had shared beautiful bonds, pleaded with me to stay. But my mind was made up. I decided to pack my bags and head toward the city where our relative lived. I had no clue whether this sudden leap of faith was right or wrong. All I knew was that I was desperate for change.
The Journey to the Unknown
To make the transition a little smoother, my father’s sister (my aunt) lived in that very same city. She generously agreed to let me stay at her house for a few days—just enough time for me to hunt for a job and stand on my own feet.
As the departure date neared, my family threw a curveball. They insisted I take my younger brother along. They wanted him to step out of his comfort zone, experience the world outside, and grow. I readily agreed. After all, he had never lived away from home, and I figured, two heads would be better than one in a strange new world.

Soon, my family drove us and our luggage down to my aunt’s place. Everyone welcomed us with warm smiles and happy faces. But the moment the car drove away, leaving us behind, a terrifyingly new chapter of my life began. I stood there, utterly clueless about where this path would lead, what storms awaited me, and whether I possessed the strength to face them.
I had no idea why destiny had dragged me to this specific city. I had simply stepped into a land of unknown possibilities.
The Bitter Taste of Failure
Reality, however, hit us hard. As soon as I arrived, I exhausted every ounce of my energy trying to secure a new job, a new start. But failure became my shadow. To make matters worse, the relative who had promised the world suddenly cut himself off from us, leaving us stranded.
Adrift and isolated, my only solace became my mobile phone. It was my only anchor in that quiet house. I spent my long, empty days completely engrossed in the glowing screen.
Between my aunt’s house and her shop, time felt agonizingly slow. My sole occupation became scrolling through Facebook during my spare hours, aimlessly sending out friend requests to pass the time.

And then, the day arrived. The day for which fate had secretly rewritten my entire life.
The Face That Stopped Time
Like any other mundane afternoon, I was mindlessly looking for new connections on Facebook, when a girl’s profile suddenly flashed across my screen. Out of curiosity, I clicked on it. By some stroke of luck, her profile was completely open.
The exact second her picture loaded, my world came to a sudden, grinding halt.
My heart thudded violently against my chest. My breath caught in my throat. A strange, electrifying shiver ran down my spine, making my fingers tingle. Looking at her image felt like standing in the eye of a silent, beautiful storm. Her face possessed an innocence so raw, a cuteness so pure, and eyes so intoxicating that they felt like a magnetic pull, drawing my very soul toward her.
I lost all track of time. I just sat there, staring at her photograph, completely hypnotized by her beauty and those deep, mesmerizing eyes. It felt as though my heart had spent its entire existence waiting just for this face, beating only for this exact moment.

Without knowing who she was, where she came from, or what she did, I couldn’t stop myself. My trembling fingers moved across the screen, and I hit “Send Friend Request.”
