Chapter:5 Love in Broken English, Confessions in Silence

The Unspoken Language of Love

Through our conversations, I eventually learned a heavy truth—she was married and had children. All she could offer me in return was her friendship, nothing more. But I comforted my heart with a simple thought: all great love stories begin with friendship. At that time, even her friendship meant the world to me. A wave of love for her had already originated in my heart, and I knew this wave was destined to grow stronger with each passing day.

Seeing just a single photograph of her had set off an ocean of emotions within me. How could I let go of the chance to be near her, even if only as a friend? I was completely captured by the voice of my heart, so blinded by this feeling that I could see nothing and no one around me but her. It felt as though I was lost in an uncharted ocean; the deeper I dove, the more I was overwhelmed by its profound greatness. Her image fascinated me. It was as if I had been searching for something my entire life, and the moment I saw her, my search was complete. In our messages, the vast distance and time zones between us became entirely meaningless.

One day, gathering my courage, I asked her if we could connect via video call. To my absolute surprise, she agreed instantly—curiosity had got the better of her too. When the screen lit up, there she was: a mysterious girl with dark, neatly cropped hair, delicate features, and a cute smile that carved deep dimples into both her cheeks.

Her bright, burning eyes held me captive. I found myself smiling back involuntarily, blushing and tangled in my own confusion. We didn’t share a common language; in those first few moments, only our eyes spoke to each other. From that unforgettable day on, seeing each other became our daily ritual.

She would communicate using sign language mixed with fragments of broken English—whatever she could recall from her school days. Over time, our silent gestures smoothly transformed into fluent English conversations. To make these video calls happen, I would run away from my relatives, stealing moments to hide under a massive tree in a secluded little park. She, too, would take a quick break from her hectic work, running to meet me on our digital dates. Those were unforgettable days, filled with nervous excitement, pure happiness, and an innocent joy that filled my heart.

Dear readers, I want to explain that I am deliberately keeping our names hidden. To this day, my love story remains a strict, sacred secret. I chose not to change our names either, because using fake names just wouldn’t feel fair to the truth of what we shared.

Seeing her every day became my oxygen. If a day passed without a glimpse of her face, it felt incomplete, painfully dragged out, and utterly devastated. Sharing every little detail of our lives and doing everything in my power just to hear her laugh became my favorite routine.

We talked about absolutely everything. I initiated her into the deep-rooted Indian traditions of my family, shared the spiritual essence of my religion, and described the rich variety of Indian dishes. In return, she introduced me to the warmth of Russian customs, their culinary delights, and even tried to teach me her native tongue. Speaking Russian turned out to be a hilarious test for me, and we would laugh for hours at my clumsy pronunciation. Seeing the pure happiness on her innocent face made me feel like my heart was the happiest and most fulfilled in the entire world.

But with each passing day, my love for her grew to a point where it could no longer be contained. Because she was married, we only spoke during her working hours; she was bound by the invisible walls and rules of her home and married life. The nights began to feel hollow without her messages. It seemed as though she, too, could sense my inner restlessness—she knew I had fallen deeply in love with her.

Now, I was standing at a crossroads, left with only one choice: to open my heart, lay bare my deepest feelings, and confess my love to her… while secretly praying that I wouldn’t receive a refusal.
